“Welcome to our first and second grade multi-age program.  Our goal this year is to build your child’s self-esteem, confidence, and independence, while promoting their academic abilities.  We work as a team to provide a safe and positive learning experience for your child while establishing a strong foundation for learning.”

 

o    Arrival/Dismissal

o    Teachers must arrive by 7:50 and be in their classrooms by 8:00 but the doors don’t open for students until 8:10.  

o    Students arriving between 8:00 and 8:10 are permitted to wait in the cafeteria.

o    First load, car riders and daycare vans – 3:15

o    Second load at 3:20

o     Walkers/classroom pickup – 3:30

o    Require Dismissal slip for early releases

o    Changes in transportation in writing, please! Bus changes must be approved by office.

o    Early release days all dismissal times are 2 hours earlier.

o    Authorization to release forms/show photo ID

o     

o    Classroom Interruptions - Prime Learning Time until 10:30 daily

o    Absences – Notes; Excused and unexcused; 3 unexcused tardies/early releases =  1 absence

o    Money –  Money should be sent in a labeled baggie; pre-pay lunch; pay online

o    General Classroom Schedule:

8:10 – 8:45 Morning warm-up

8:45 – 9:30 Calendar/Go over morning work/Phonics lesson

9:30 – 10:15 Resource Classes (see schedule below)

10:20-11:15 – Language Arts (Science and Social Studies is integrated with ELA activities as often as possible)

11:20 – 11:40 – Lunch

11:45 – 12:15 - Recess (Keep a jacket, sweater, or sweatshirt in book bag)

12:15 – 12:50 –Water/bathroom/finish incomplete work/SSR/ Library

12:50 – 1:35 - Intervention

1;35 – 2:30 Math

2:30 – Science/Social Studies (on days when science and social studies have been taught during Language Arts/in integration, we have learning centers or may use this time to finish incomplete activities/lessons that were started earlier in the day.  This also provides another opportunity for student remediation/enrichment, if needed.)

3:00-  Snack (Send a snack everyday) Explain homework for today.

3:10 – Students prepare to go home.
 3:20 - Bus Riders dismissed
3:30 - Car riders and walkers dismissed

·         Resource Schedule – 9:30-10:15

Monday - Music

Tuesday – PE (Tennis shoes)

Wednesday – Art

Thursday – PE (Tennis shoes)

Friday – computer

 

  • Communication – Folder communication

Check your child’s folder each night.

Check for homework or paper to be filled out.

Put your child’s name on all paperwork.

Take out all the graded papers.

Leave the behavior sheet on the folder and sign nightly.

 

 

  • Behavior Policy/Consequences/Rewards

·         Classroom Rules - We have three basic rules in our classroom which are:

o    Raise your hand before you speak.

o    Raise your hand and ask permission to leave your seat.

o    Raise your hand for permission to touch what doesn't belong to you.
o    Be respectful. 
 
 
 

 

  • Homework - (15-30 minutes 3 to 4 times per week
  • Dress Code

·         Most common violation is length of shorts and skirts and wearing sleeveless attire

 

  • Academic Details – Individual assessments; Portfolios/writing; grading & report cards   

                                   STAR Math Reports; “Book-It” program

·         Reading – Listen to your child read and listen for fluency.

-Stop at punctuation.

-Ask questions during reading comprehension.            

 

·         Writing Rules – 1st grade – at least 3 complete sentences with punctuation and picture

2nd grade – at least 5 complete sentences with punctuation, pictures, and reads smoothly. Each sentence must have at least the number or words as their age.
