January, 2016

Congratulations to our fabulous First grade students and staff who performed our Christmas musical, “Twinkle and Shine.”  You were amazing!!  You reminded us that each of us has a special light that shines before others.  Thank you also to our Meadow Lane families and staff for contributing to the Toy Drive which brought in a little under a hundred toys.  What a way to share the joy of giving!!  There are boys and girls in our community who were blessed by your gifts!   Thank you!!

Congratulations also to our Third grade students who performed at the Wayne County Choral Showcase Concert and also at the First grade Christmas program at Meadow Lane.  You performed so well and represented Meadow Lane with outstanding character and skill!  We are very proud of each of you!

Looking ahead, the Fourth grade students are preparing for their performance of “Arf!.”  They will perform this musical in the gym on Wednesday and Thursday, March 23 and 24.  Parents and family members are invited to attend the Thursday, March 24th, performance, at 9:30 a.m. in the gym.  Students will perform on Wednesday, March 23 at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. for our Meadow Lane family to attend.  Fourth grade students are encouraged to visit “Marriner’s Music” class webpage from the Meadow Lane website to practice the songs for our musical.  Click on “Arf!” and you will see the songs for our musical.  You may copy and paste the address to rehearse each song in our musical or highlight and right click to be taken to the page listed.  This is a great tool for students to practice at home.

The Wayne County Public Schools Honors Choral Festival Concert will take place on Tuesday evening, April 19, at 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium at Goldsboro High School.  Selected students from all Wayne County Public Schools will sing in the Elementary, Middle, or High School Honors Chorus.  A few of our fourth grade students will be participating in the Elementary Honors Chorus.  Students will be selected based on their talent, positive respectful behavior, and work habits.  Admission is free and open to the public.

Students in the general music class have been studying pieces that represent winter as well as the leadership and contributions of Martin Luther King, Jr.  Students have sung, played instruments, studied form, style, and music notation as we celebrated this great American leader.  We have enjoyed incorporating ice skating movement in grades one and two to represent triple meter.  We have also incorporated math, reading, and problem solving skills into the music lesson.

Congratulations to our students who have been singing the Meadow Lane Mission Statement and “The Star Spangled Banner” over the intercom.  You are doing a great job sharing your talent!  Until next time….

Pressing on to create lifelong musicians……Mrs. Marriner
