School Counselor Qualifications

Elementary school counselors are specialists in child growth and development who have a strong background in the behavioral sciences and human relations.  They also possess a knowledge of the elementary school program which includes the curriculum, the learning process, and school organization.  To qualify for the position of school counselor in North Carolina, one must hold a masters degree in counseling from an accredited counselor education program and possess a North Carolina state license issued by the Department of Public Instruction.
